Social phobia

DEFINITION:

Intense fear of certain social situations or intervention in public. A great preoccupation exists of blushing, feeling dizzy or trembling in front of other people. The conviction that everybody is watching how one behaves also exists.

FREQUENT PHYSICAL REACTIONS:

  • Palpitations and tachycardia
  • Sweating
  • Tremors
  • Empty feeling in the stomach.
  • Dry mouth.
  • Blushing.
  • Stress, headaches.

FREQUENT IDEAS:

  • "My voice will fail me"
  • "They will think that I am stupid"
  • "I will make a fool of myself"
  • "I am not as good as the rest"
  • "They will reject me"

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT IS NOT TREATED:

  • The patient can find themselves excluded from social life.
  • Social situations in the closest environment to the patient (family and friends) may even be avoided.
